This
diagram of the SST Concord's engine was part of a larger graphic that
appeared in the Aug. 7, 2000 issue of Time Magazine. The engine failed
on take off, causing an explosion and grounding the SST fleet. It turned
out that debris from the runway had entered the engine. We did not know
this at the time this diagram was created. The thrust reversers on the
right are shown closed because of speculation that they may have contributed
to the accident. |
