Modeling a heart

Many of the heart diagrams that I have done focus on coronary artery disease, so I wanted to make the arteries that flow along the surface of the heart as 3D geometry. I did not want to use a bump map for the arteries because they would not look good in close up shots. The main idea that I want get across in this tutorial is how to make the arteries sit on the surface of the heart.
