PART
3: CREATING THE ROPE TEXTURE
This
part describes how I made the rope texture. I am sure this process is
well understood by most Lightwave users, but I decided to include it in
the interest of creating a complete tutorial. I carried out these steps
using Adobe Photoshop.
STEP 1
I
created a new document and used the Noise filter to fill it.

STEP
2
I
then used the grain filter to add a vertical linear element

STEP
3
The
motion blur filter smoothed out the grain

STEP
4
The
shear filter

STEP
5
The
offset filter brings the edges to the middle. When I am done I will have
an image that will tile seamlessly

STEP
6
I
used the clone tool to remove the seam running across the center of the
texture. I did not do a very good job, but this is just a tutorial, I'm
not getting paid for this:)

STEP
7
I
converted the image above to grayscale and saved it to use as the bump
map. Then I converted back to RGB and used the Hue/Saturation command
to create the color texture.
